2065. Amdel 72. Personal for Secretary Hull92 from the President. I am in full accord with your suggestion that Bob Murphy be appointed United States member of the Advisory Council to the Allied Control Commission for Italy and further that he be given the rank of Ambassador. I am telegraphing General Eisenhower to that effect. The State Department I understand has telegraphed Murphy directly. I also agree that he be granted leave before taking up his new job. Roosevelt.
