Memorandum of Conversation, by the Assistant Secretary of State (Long)

I talked to Speaker Ray burn this morning on the subject of the Chinese immigration bill. He said that it would be up before the Immigration Committee this morning; that it was in good shape before the Committee but that there would be some opposition to it on the floor; that they could easily get a rule out of the Rules Committee; and that he thought it was in good shape, that there would be some opposition to it, and that a letter from the Secretary of State to be used on the floor would be very helpful.

I told him that I thought I could assure him that there would be such a letter at the appropriate time and that I would keep in touch with him in regard to it.
