The Chargé in Germany (Morris) to the Secretary of State

1302. The various documents issued by the Foreign Office today avoid any statement in the nature of declaration of war against Greece [Page 715] with the exception of the concluding sentence of a memorandum which was attached to the note handed the Greek Minister99 today. The memorandum concludes with this statement. “The Reich Government can no longer close their eyes to the fact that Greece is making common cause with Britain and must therefore be regarded as Germany’s enemy in the present war with all the consequences that this entails.”

The text of the note to the Greek Minister has not yet been made public. I have an appointment with the Greek Minister this afternoon.
