888. The Embassy hears from a fairly reliable source that Gesandter Schwörbel, Chief of the Southwestern [Southeastern] European Section of the German Foreign Office,42a is either en route to or has arrived at Athens for the purpose of promoting a Greek compromise settlement with Italy.
