740.0011 European War 1939/11872: Telegram
The Consul at Leopoldville ( Mallon ) to the Secretary of State
[Received 4:25 p.m.]
Referring to my telegrams of June 6, 4 p.m. and June 9, 10 p.m. [a.m.], the Governor General of the Belgian Congo46a has asked me [Page 573] to inform the Department that an attack from the North on the line of support to Egypt through Matadi, Leopoldville and Stanleyville could not be successfully defended with [without?] more military equipment. He asks that this be given full consideration in passing on orders for military supplies now being placed through the Belgian Embassy.
