The Icelandic Prime Minister (Jonasson) to the Secretary of State

In view of the status of Iceland created by parliamentary resolutions of April 10th, already notified to you, the Icelandic Government propose to establish a Legation in Washington and at the same time to appoint consular representative in New York. With this object in view they intend to appoint Mr. Vilhjalmur Thor, Icelandic Government [Page 676] Trade Commissioner in New York and temporary Consul General for Iceland in New York; to entrust him to be in charge of the Legation in Washington. Icelandic Government would be glad to learn by telegram whether this proposed appointment of Mr. Vilhjalmur [Thor] as Consul General for Iceland in New York and in charge of Legation in Washington would be acceptable to the United States Government.
