The Consul General at Algiers (Cole) to the Secretary of State

167. Department’s rush 91.91a My 166.92 Message was delivered at noon this day. The only comment by the General immediately followed the words concerning the preservation of French African colonies against aggressions when he interposed “and against British aggressions too”.

At the conclusion of the short interview he requested that I should convey to the American Government his appreciation of its interest in the matter and indicated he would make an early reply.
