Your 558, October 20, 2 p.m. The following countries took action in accordance with the President’s request:25 Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Iraq, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, Venezuela. In addition, Sweden informed us that the King had, even before the receipt of the President’s request, sent a message to Hitler.

In addition, the Presidents of all the American Republics except Chile, Guatemala, Panama, and Mexico addressed messages of congratulation directly to President Roosevelt with reference to the telegrams he had sent on September 26 to the German Chancellor and the President of Czechoslovakia (760F.62/1734).
