The Second Secretary of Embassy in China (Atcheson) to the Secretary of State

Nanking, December 15, 1937—6 p.m.
[Received December 15—6:30 a.m.]

American news correspondent from Nanking reports all Americans [and] other foreigners in city uninjured except German named Sperling whose injury we previously reported. Embassy employees safe and only damage to property suffered by Counselor Peck’s43 residence which was struck by shrapnel.
