Statement by the Japanese Government, July 25, 194129
In recent times through successive Franco-Japanese agreements, beginning with the Matsuoka-Henri Agreement of August, 1940, the relations between Japan and French Indo-China have grown rapidly intimate. The Governments of Japan and France have now reached a complete agreement of views on the joint defense of French Indo-China under a friendly policy.
While observing strictly all her obligations arising from the existing agreements, especially her solemn pledge to respect the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of French [Indo-]China, Japan will hereafter strive more than ever to promote the friendly relations between Japan and France and thereby to bring about the common prosperity of the two countries.
