188. My 178, September 26, 6 p.m. The proposed aviation conference at Lima has proved abortive from all I can gather.
[Page 595]The Chilean Director General of Aviation has not arrived, and nothing further has been heard from him since he requested permission to fly here. With regard to Von Bauer, who apparently is still in [Lima], I can only ascertain that he had several discussions with local Post Office authorities, but without result up to the present time. It appears that the President’s refusal of the Faucett-Scadta request put the quietus on the conference. See paragraph (3) of my 178, September 26, 6 p.m.
