167. My despatch No. 344, August 20, page 3,35 and telegram 147, August 3, 7 p.m. The following telegram was sent to the American Embassy Santiago:
[Paraphrase.] “September 5, 5 p.m. Your 120, July 25, noon, to the Secretary of State and pursuant telegraphic correspondence between the two Embassies.
In view of the Peruvian attitude toward the proposed conference, I had thought that the visit of the Chilean Director General of Aviation to Lima would not take place. I have now been informed that [Page 584] he has requested permission to fly here and that he expects to arrive within a few days. Have you any information on this?” [End paraphrase.]
