The Minister in Norway (Schmedeman) to the Secretary of State
[Received April 9—1:31 p.m.]
11. Department’s circular of April 5, 1 p.m.34 Norwegian Foreign Office states informally that the question of Mormon missionaries has not been seriously discussed in recent years, that the Department of Justice is firmly convinced that they are undesirable and the police are satisfied that they lead young girls astray and that the efforts of conversion are centered upon them. It was intimated that an official request by the Legation would result in careful reconsideration of the matter but I did not feel justified in requesting this without further instructions.
