Sir: I have the honor to inform, you that I sent you on the 12th instant, from Alexandria, the following telegram:

Commander Gorringe sailed two o’clock to-day with obelisk. Will call at Gibraltar.

A telegraphic dispatch received on the 23d instant from the commander from Gibaraltar informed me of his arrival at that place, and that everything was working admirably well. The steamer was in good condition on her departure, and I have no doubt will have arrived in New York before the receipt of this dispatch.
