Sir: Referring to your note under date of the 4th January last, requesting this Government to use its good offices with that of Mexico, with a view to having the time fixed for the expulsion of the Sisters of Charity from that country extended to the present month, I have now the honor to inclose herewith, for your information, copy of dispatch No.:239,* addressed to this Department by the minister of the United States in Mexico, to whom the matter was referred.
