Mr. Sanford to Mr. Seward.
Sir: What remains of the Belgian legion in Mexico disembarked from the French transport Rhone on the 9th at Antwerp, in number 780 men. Of the remainder 200 were killed or disappeared, and the others have been invalided or left behind. They were received in public barracks at Antwerp, and those who need it are aided by the government to return to their homes.
I have the honor to be, with great respect, your most obedient servant,
Hon. William H. Seward, Secretary of State, Washington, D. C.
