Sir F. Bruce to Mr. Seward

Sir: With reference to your communication of the 27th December last, respecting the desire of the United States government to appoint a consul or a [Page 234] consular agent at Hamilton, Canada West, I have the honor to inform you, in accordance with the instructions which I have received, that her Majesty’s government readily concur in the creation at Hamilton of either a consulship or a consular agency, as the United States government may prefer.
