Sir: With reference to your note of the 1st
instant, relative to the extradition of William H. Hutchinson, I have
the hon6r to transmit to you herewith a copy of a despatch which I have
received from the governor general of Canada.

My Lord: I have the honor to acknowledge
the receipt of your despatch of the 1st instant, enclosing a note
from the Secretary of State of the United States, in which he asked
for the extradition of one William H. Hutchinson.
In reply, I have the honor to state that I have reason to believe
that this person is now in custody at Montreal, and that as soon as
I shall have been advised that the proofs required by the treaty
have been made in his case, the necessary warrant will issue for his
delivery to the officers of the United States.
