Sir: In connexion with my No. 707, of the 2d
instant, I now transmit copies of two notes received from Lord Russell
in reply to two of mine, copies of which were forwarded with that
despatch.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the
receipt of your letter of the 4th instant, enclosing copies of three
more depositions relative to the part taken by Mr. Rumble in
providing men for the steamer Rappahannock. These depositions, as
well as those enclosed in the letter which you did me the honor to
address to me on the 16th ultimo, have been referred without loss of
time to the proper department of her Majesty’s government.

deposition made by Patrick Shanly respecting the enlistment of
British subjects at Liverpool for the service of the so-styled

shall be considered by her Majesty’s government.
