My Lord: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 30th ultimo, asking to be made acquainted with the grounds upon which the judge advocate general founds the opinion that Mr. J. M. Vernon is not a British subject, and to state, in reply, that a copy of it has been sent to the Secretary of War with a view of obtaining the desired information.
