Mr. F. W. Seward to Lord Lyons.

My Lord: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 27th instant, transmitting a copy of a circular which has been issued by the Hudson’s Bay Company, in conformity with a suggestion made to it by her Majesty’s government, touching supplies of arms, ammunition, or military stores to Indians on the northern frontier of the United States. Thanking you for the information thus communicated, I beg that you will be so good as to convey to her Majesty’s government an expression of the President’s grateful acknowledgments for this friendly act.

I avail myself of the opportunity to renew to your lordship the assurance of my high consideration.
