My Lord: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 15th instant, and to thank you for the extract from a dispatch from her Majesty’s consul at San Francisco which accompanied it, in answer to a telegram by which you directed him to communicate with the governor of Vancouver’s island [Page 606] respecting the reports that vessels were being fitted out in that colony to cruise against American commerce.
