Sir: I now add to the number of similar cases already intrusted to your charge that of the American bark Union Jack, destroyed by the piratical vessel of British origin and equipment, commonly designated the Alabama, and [Page 422] will thank you to take such steps in the matter as shall, in your judgment, tend to secure such redress as may be justly due to the aggrieved parties from her Britannic Majesty’s government.
