Presentation of Credentials: About June 12, 1844
Termination of Mission: Left Macao August 27, 1844- Commissioned to China. Cushing was issued two separate commissions during a recess of the Senate, one as Commissioner and one as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary. When Cushing was recommissioned on June 17, 1844, it was as Commissioner only.
