SUBJECT
- U.S. Policy Toward Indonesia
The President has considered the Plan of Action for Indonesia contained in the memorandum from the Department of State dated October 10, 19621 in response to NSAM 179 of August 18, 1962.2 The President has approved those action recommendations for emergency assistance proposed in the Plan of Action and the background memorandum attached thereto with the exception, however, of the recommendation that the United States supply $15 to $20 million of spare parts and raw materials.
The President wishes to be informed of the extent to which procurement of spare parts and raw materials is proposed to take place outside the United States.
The President has not approved the measures proposed beyond the emergency assistance referred to above. He will, however, consider these and other specific proposals for additional steps which the U.S. might take both in the economic and diplomatic fields when they are presented.
