Inhabitants of Liverpool
Resolution passed at a meeting held by the inhabitants of the borough of Liverpool.
At a public meeting of the inhabitants of the borough of Liverpool, held in St. George’s Hall, on Thursday, the 27th day of April, 1865, Edward Laurence, esq., mayor, in the chair, it was
Resolved unanimously, That the inhabitants of Liverpool, in public meeting assembled, do hereby express their deepest sorrow and indignation at the atrocious assassination of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, and of Mr. Frederick Seward, Assistant Secretary of State; and at the dastardly attempt, about the same hour, on the life of Mr. Seward, Secretary of State. They desire that the government and the people of the United States should understand that no difference of opinion on the merits of the conflict of the last four years avails to prevent the unanimous condemnation of so great a crime against our common humanity.
