Inhabitants of Liverpool

At a meeting of the inhabitants of Liverpool, held in St. George’s Hall, on the evening of Thursday, the 27th of April, 1865, called for the purpose of expressing sorrow and indignation at the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States of America, the following resolutions were passed unanimously:

1.
That this meeting of the inhabitants of Liverpool records its horror and detestation of the atrocious assassination perpetrated at Washington, on the fourteenth of this month.
2.
That this meeting desires to express its deepest sympathy with the families of President Lincoln and Mr. Seward in the great affliction which has befallen them.
3.
That this meeting desires, also, to express its profound sympathy with the people of the United States in the loss they have sustained by the death of President Lincoln, and its earnest hope that the events we now deplore may not imperil or delay the triumph of freedom and of right, or the restoration of peace in America.
4.
That the resolutions now passed be signed by the chairman on behalf of the meeting, and be transmitted through the proper authorities to Washington.

CHARLES WILSON,
Chairman.
