The United States Representative at the United Nations (Austin) to the Secretary of State

confidential

Delga 49. Following is text of letter dated September 29 from Lie to Austin:

“29 September, 1950 For attention Department of State: Dear Ambassador Austin: In a letter dated 29 September, 1950, copy of which is attached, Prince Wan, Chairman of the Fourth Committee, [Page 75] informs me that, on the basis of an informal canvass of a majority of the delegations composing the committee, he has ascertained that it is the wish of the membership that Reverend Michael Scott be present at the headquarters during the proceedings of that committee. In consequence, I am writing to request that you make such arrangements as may be necessary to enable Mr. Scott to proceed to the headquarters of the United Nations as an invitee of the United Nations in order to be available for such consultations as the members of the Fourth Committee may desire during the present session of the General Assembly. Sincerely Yours, S. Trygve Lie, Secretary-General”
