12. Your 34, March 10, 9 p.m. While desirous of having its representatives extend their good offices with a view to assuring proper treatment and just trial, the Department feels that it could not properly intervene with the Greek Government in behalf of American citizens who have contravened Greek law in such a serious matter as rebellion unless there was strong reason to believe that otherwise a grave miscarriage of justice would result.
Please keep Department informed by telegraph concerning developments in Stephano case and any other cases of a similar nature.
