Sir: To-day, at one-clock a deputation, composed of Count Joseph Potulreki, and Mr. St. Motty, both members of the Prussian Chamber of Deputies, presented to me an address, on the subject of the late terrible calamity to our nation, signed by the Polish members of the Prussian Chamber of Deputies, with a [Page 497] request to have the same laid before the government and people of the United States. I assured them of our full appreciation of this act of sympathy, and that I would not fail to immediately forward the address to my government.
I am, sir, your obedient servant,
