Italian Society of United Workmen of Alessandria.
[Translation.]
Hon. Sir: The society of united workmen of Alessandria, impressed with horror at the mighty crime that deprived Abraham Lincoln of life, that great defender of the oppressed and champion of liberty, has resolved to drape it banner in mourning for thirty days, and cherishes the most ardent hopes for the good of humanity and the liberty of the world, that the grand and holy work begun by this illustrious victim of treason may triumph in the end; and that the brave people of America, in the future development of their glorioue republican institutions, may continue to serve as a model to free nations, and bs a comfort and hope to those that mourn under the yoke of oppression.
