Resolution passed at a meeting held by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce.

Resolved, That this meeting desires to place on record the horror with which they, in common with all ranks and classes of her Majesty’s subjects, view the assassination of the late Mr. Lincoln, President of the United States of America; the deep sympathy which they feel for the people of that country under the great national calamity which this event has brought upon them; and their earnest hope that the war from which they have suffered so severely may soon be brought to a close, and be followed by peace, lasting and prosperous.
