  • U.S. Policy Toward Haiti

The President has reviewed the paper on United States Policy Toward Haiti prepared by the NSC/IG for Inter-American Affairs in response to NSSM 70 and the recommendations of the agencies on the issues presented in the paper, and has decided that:

The United States should encourage increased multilateral assistance for economic development in Haiti.
The United States will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the Haitian people primarily though multilateral and private channels. However, an additional $100,000 of AID funds should be made available to our Embassy in Haiti for small pilot projects in the field of humanitarian assistance as they are developed.
